Argus identifies Ningbo-based Henghe Materials as the world’s largest HCR producer, while Kolon reports 200,000 tonnes/year and the number-two position.12 These are the ten manufacturers and brand owners most useful for a 2026 sourcing benchmark, not a false-precision league table: public figures mix group totals, individual plants, resin families, and announced projects.

The top 10 hydrocarbon resin manufacturers

1. Henghe Materials & Science Technology — China

Henghe is the clearest number-one among current hydrocarbon resin manufacturers. Argus calls it the world’s largest HCR producer, and the company describes a Ningbo-centered network spanning Yonghua Resin, Tianli Resin, and Henghe Nanjing. Its 130-plus grades cover C5, C9, C5/C9, hydrogenated C5, C9 and DCPD, pure-monomer, liquid, and specialty resins.23 Capacity descriptions vary with expansion scope; a public FEICA profile states 400,000 tonnes/year across five plants. That sourced group figure is more defensible than projecting a current total from announced projects. The breadth makes Henghe a China benchmark for adhesives, road marking, rubber, inks, coatings, and hygiene tackifiers.

2. Kolon Industries — South Korea

Seoul-headquartered Kolon is the best-documented challenger to Henghe. Kolon says total HCR capacity reached 200,000 tonnes/year after a 15,000-tonne Yeosu expansion in 2021, placing it second globally; its current product page still claims the number-two position.4 Production spans Ulsan, Yeosu, and Daesan, with Yeosu listed at 60,000 tonnes/year. HIKOREZ covers aliphatic C5, HIKOTACK aromatic C9, SUKOREZ hydrogenated water-white resin, and MKOREZ multi-performance grades. Kolon is relevant where buyers want one producer across packaging and hygiene adhesives, tapes, road marking, rubber, and tires. Procurement teams should still qualify the exact grade and site rather than rely on corporate capacity alone.

3. ExxonMobil Product Solutions — United States

Spring, Texas-headquartered ExxonMobil remains a global reference through Escorez. The range includes aliphatic 1102 and premium hydrogenated cycloaliphatic grades such as 5300 and 5400. Its Singapore complex added a 90,000-tonne/year hydrogenated-resin plant, described at opening as the world’s largest single line of its type.5 The 2026 picture differs from older directories: ExxonMobil closed the Baton Rouge C5 and water-white units, which Argus lists at 47,000 and 50,000 tonnes/year of nameplate capacity.6 Singapore and the remaining international network are consequently more important. ExxonMobil belongs in this benchmark for technology, documentation, and brand recognition—not because its historical US capacity is still operating.

4. Synthomer — United Kingdom (Eastman legacy portfolio)

Lists naming Eastman as an independent current producer need correction. London-headquartered Synthomer completed its $1 billion acquisition of Eastman’s Adhesive Resins business in April 2022.7 The Adhesive Solutions portfolio includes Regalite, Piccotac, Piccotex, and Regaltac; Eastotac remains a legacy formulation benchmark. Technical sheets show supply from Synthomer facilities in the Netherlands, while 2025 results discuss European HCR production managed at Dow’s Böhlen site through its planned 2027 closure.8 Synthomer publishes no clean current HCR capacity total, so “large multi-site portfolio; undisclosed tonnage” is more accurate than old Eastman figures. It remains a major reference for adhesives, hygiene, packaging, tapes, and polymer modification.

5. Rain Carbon — United States / Germany

Stamford-based Rain Carbon supplies NOVARES thermoplastic and water-white hydrogenated resins. The range includes petrochemical aromatic resins, carbon-derived indene-coumarone products, modified grades, and NOVARES pure hydrogenated products. This breadth serves inks, coatings, adhesives, and tires, but also makes “NOVARES equivalent” meaningless without the series and grade. Rain publishes useful plant numbers: Duisburg has 46,000 tonnes/year of NOVARES capacity, while Castrop-Rauxel can make up to 50,000 tonnes/year of hydrogenated resin.9 That is roughly 96,000 tonnes/year across two disclosed German assets, although their chemistries are not interchangeable. Rain is a strong specialist where aromaticity, modification, or hydrogenated purity matters more than commodity scale.

6. Zeon Corporation — Japan

Tokyo-headquartered Zeon is a distinctive C5 specialist. Quintone 100 uses mainly high-purity 1,3-pentadiene and covers aliphatic and aromatic-modified grades for adhesives, traffic paint, and rubber. Quintone 1000 is a separate DCPD family for paints, inks, rubber adhesives, and epoxy modification; it should not be grouped with standard C5 resin.10 Zeon’s 2024 Fact Book lists 80,000 tonnes/year of C5 capacity and 10,000 tonnes/year of DCPD resin capacity across Japan and Thailand. This disclosed 90,000-tonne scale and feedstock-separation expertise make Zeon a useful technical reference. Quintone A100, M100, and related 100°C grades are common benchmarks, but compatibility still varies by grade.

7. Zibo Luhua Hongjin New Material Group — China

Zibo-headquartered Luhua is an integrated processor of C5 and C9 cracker streams. Its range includes A1100SZ and other C5 grades, catalytic and thermal C9 resins, C5/C9 products, and HD1100–HD1130 water-white resins.11 It also produces piperylene, isoprene, DCPD, and elastomer materials, supporting feedstock integration. A current group HCR total is not publicly itemized. Argus identified planned Zhangzhou additions of 36,000 tonnes/year of C5 resin and 30,000 tonnes/year of water-white resin, a verified scale signal that does not confuse feedstock throughput with finished resin.2 Luhua is relevant to China-origin second sourcing for adhesives, road marking, coatings, inks, rubber, and hygiene applications.

8. Cray Valley (TotalEnergies) — France

Cray Valley remains a TotalEnergies affiliate and current manufacturer, but its 2026 portfolio needs precise treatment. Carling Saint-Avold produces Cleartack W-series colorless hydrocarbon resins for hot-melt adhesives, thermoplastic-elastomer modification, and tires; W85, W90, W100, and W110 are representative grades. TotalEnergies does not disclose standalone Cleartack capacity.12 Wingtack is no longer a current Cray Valley product: TotalEnergies agreed to sell Wingtack, Poly bd, Dymalink, four US sites, and Cray Valley Italy in 2023; completion followed that July.13 Wingtack remains a legacy formulation benchmark, but the ownership change affects supplier classification and where buyers should seek current technical and commercial documentation.

9. Shandong Qilong Chemical — China

Qilong is a Zibo producer with resin operations in Zibo, Fushun, and Nanjing. Its portfolio covers H-series aliphatic C5, G-series C5-modified C9, and R-, L-, and N-series aromatic or modified C9 resins. Representative grades include H-1100A for adhesives and rubber, G-100 for C5/C9 applications, and R-100/R-110 thermal C9.14 Qilong’s current site provides no consolidated capacity total, so this guide marks it “undisclosed” rather than converting directory estimates into 2026 nameplate capacity. Public product tables do specify grade-level softening-point, color, and application windows. Its multi-site footprint and conventional resin breadth are relevant for inks, coatings, rubber, adhesives, and road marking.

10. Idemitsu Kosan — Japan / Taiwan

Tokyo-headquartered Idemitsu is smaller by tonnage but important in premium hydrogenated resin. I-MARV is a hydrogenated DCPD/aromatic copolymer offered in partially hydrogenated S and more fully hydrogenated P grades from 100°C to 140°C. Uses include hygiene, packaging, tape adhesives, automotive assembly, and polyolefin modification.15 Idemitsu consolidated production at Idemitsu Formosa Specialty Chemicals in Taiwan, with 25,000 tonnes/year, and stopped the former 10,000-tonne/year Tokuyama unit in March 2023.16 This current footprint is more useful than an obsolete larger number. A global branded grade is rational when an incumbent approval, customer specification, regional technical support, or documented change-control system has high value.
