MF-08 is an 8 mm high-strength, high-modulus PVA fiber for fibre-cement board, flat sheet, siding, tile, pipe, and related asbestos-free product development. The grade is designed around the characteristics that make PVA useful in cement: strong chemical affinity with the matrix, alkali resistance, low elongation, and the ability to bridge cracks after the cement paste begins to fracture.

PVA is widely used as a reinforcing component in non-asbestos fibre cement, but it is not a drop-in copy of asbestos. Its filament geometry, surface, drainage behavior, and retention are different. A successful conversion normally combines PVA reinforcement with cellulose process fibers, fillers, cement chemistry, flocculant control, forming conditions, and curing selected for the production line.

The dimensions and mechanical values are benchmarked to public 8 mm construction-fiber data in the Kuralon range. They are selection values, not a claim of equivalence. Fiber finish, bundle opening, and consistency in the buyer’s slurry are as important as a headline tensile-strength number.

Pulping and slurry dispersion

Uniform dispersion is essential: a strong fiber trapped in a ball does not reinforce the surrounding sheet. For a Hatschek or similar wet process:

  1. Open and refine the cellulose pulp to the plant’s normal target before relying on it to carry PVA.
  2. Prepare a dilute, well-agitated addition zone and meter MF-08 slowly. Avoid charging a compressed mass onto a quiet water surface.
  3. Allow the controlled bundles to open, but avoid prolonged high shear intended to fibrillate cellulose; PVA is not refined in the same way.
  4. Check the chest, vat, felt, and green sheet for knots, floating rafts, uneven retention, and drainage change.
  5. Rebalance flocculant, process water, and retention aids only through plant trials. Over-flocculation can create local fiber-rich areas.

Board evaluation should include green-sheet handling, drainage rate, layer formation, density, flexural strength, toughness, dimensional stability, and wet/dry durability. PVA content alone does not establish board performance or regulatory suitability.

Supply and qualification

Milorez is a Fujian-based transparent export trading supplier. PVA fiber commercial MOQ is 1 × 20’ FCL, approximately 12–15 tonnes under the confirmed packing plan, quoted FOB Xiamen or Qingdao.

Request a free MF-08 sample with your forming process, board thickness, cellulose system, target PVA dosage, refining sequence, and current dispersion problem. We will confirm the trial grade and current data before dispatch.

Reference basis

Public technical benchmarks include Kuraray’s cement-reinforcement guidance and construction PVA fiber table, plus industry literature on PVA-reinforced asbestos-free fibre cement. MF-08 remains a Milorez sourcing grade, not a representation that Milorez manufactures another company’s product.

Frequently asked questions

Is MF-08 a one-for-one asbestos replacement?

No. MF-08 is a candidate reinforcing fiber for asbestos-free fibre-cement formulations, but asbestos and PVA differ in morphology, drainage, retention, and bonding. The board recipe and forming process must be revalidated.

Why use an 8 mm PVA fiber in fibre cement?

An 8 mm high-strength fiber can provide useful crack bridging and flexural reinforcement while remaining processable in properly controlled cement slurries. Actual performance depends on dispersion, retention, matrix design, and curing.

Should MF-08 be refined with cellulose pulp?

Set refining energy for the cellulose pulp; do not treat PVA as a fibrillating cellulose fiber. Introduce MF-08 gradually after the pulp is opened, then use sufficient agitation to separate bundles without prolonged destructive shear.

Are samples available?

Yes. Milorez offers a free sample for process and board trials. Commercial MOQ is one 20-foot FCL, approximately 12–15 tonnes depending on packing.
