What is the Zeon Quintone series?

Zeon’s current official catalog divides Quintone petroleum resin into two substantially different groups.1

The Quintone 100 series is made mainly from high-purity 1,3-pentadiene recovered from C5 fractions. It includes aliphatic grades and aliphatic/aromatic grades for pressure-sensitive adhesives, hot-melt adhesives, traffic paint and rubber modification. The aromatic-modified products occupy a screening space closer to C5/C9 copolymer resin, but the shared label does not establish matching feed composition or molecular structure.

The Quintone 1000 series is made mainly from high-purity dicyclopentadiene, also recovered from C5 fractions. Zeon positions this alicyclic family for paints, inks, rubber-based adhesives and epoxy modification. Some grades contain ester or aromatic functionality. Standard Milorez MR-C5 and MR-59 grades should therefore not be treated as substitutes for Quintone 1105, 1325, 1500, 1920 or 2940.

Pressure-sensitive and hot-melt adhesives

For SIS or natural-rubber PSAs, compare MR-C5100 with a standard aliphatic Quintone grade at the incumbent resin loading. Measure blend clarity, melt viscosity, loop tack, peel, shear, low-temperature tack and aged color. EVA, SBR and rubber systems

Aromatic modification can broaden compatibility with EVA, SBR or styrenic phases. Screen cloud point and cooled-blend haze before performance testing. Traffic and road-marking formulations

MR-C5100 is the practical first control for a conventional 100°C aliphatic binder.
