MF-12 is a 12 mm high-strength PVA fiber for engineered cementitious composites (ECC/SHCC), fine repair shotcrete, overlays, precast elements, and other high-performance cementitious systems. Compared with shorter microfibers, its greater embedded length provides a longer crack-bridging path, making it a useful starting point where toughness and distributed microcracking matter.

The fiber’s hydrophilic surface bonds strongly to cementitious matrices. That bond can help transfer stress across a crack, but stronger is not automatically better in ECC: excessive bond may cause fiber rupture instead of controlled pull-out. The matrix, fiber finish, fly ash or slag content, sand grading, water-to-binder ratio, admixture package, and curing regime must be designed as one system.

The table reflects common published values for 12 mm PVA used in ECC research and construction applications, where diameters around 39 μm, tensile strength near 1,600 MPa, modulus around 40 GPa, and density around 1.3 g/cm³ are widely reported. Test conditioning and methods can shift the reported result.

ECC formulation guidance

ECC is defined by composite behavior, not by adding a fixed percentage of fiber to ordinary concrete. Start with a fine, stable matrix and establish the target fiber volume through micromechanical design or a controlled trial series. Monitor:

  • fresh rheology and fiber distribution;
  • first-cracking strength and tensile strain capacity;
  • crack count and crack-width distribution;
  • flexural toughness and compressive strength;
  • drying shrinkage and durability under the intended exposure.

Longer fibers increase surface area and can reduce flow. Correct the powder, water, and superplasticizer balance rather than adding uncontrolled water at the mixer.

Shotcrete processing

For wet-mix shotcrete, build a pumpable base mix before feeding MF-12 slowly into the moving mixer. Verify that the fiber passes through the pump, hose, and nozzle without segregation or blockage. For dry-mix work, confirm metering uniformity and wetting at the nozzle. A field trial should record rebound, dust, build thickness, finish, fiber visibility, and hardened performance. MF-12 does not replace required steel reinforcement or project engineering.

Supply and sample

Milorez is a transparent trading supplier based in Fujian, China. The PVA fiber MOQ is 1 × 20’ FCL, approximately 12–15 tonnes depending on packing, quoted FOB Xiamen or Qingdao.

Reference basis

Public benchmarks include Kuraray construction-fiber data and published ECC research using 12 mm PVA. MF-12 is not presented as a branded-product equivalent, and final suitability belongs to the buyer’s tested formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is MF-12 suitable for ECC?

MF-12 is a practical candidate for ECC and strain-hardening cementitious composite development, but fiber dimensions alone do not guarantee strain hardening. Matrix toughness, fiber-matrix bond, dispersion, and dosage must be designed and tested together.

Can MF-12 be used in shotcrete?

It can be evaluated in fine-aggregate wet- or dry-mix shotcrete where microcrack control and toughness are required. Pumping, hose passage, rebound, nozzle behavior, finishing, and strength must be checked in project-specific trials.

How should 12 mm PVA fiber be mixed?

Establish a stable, workable mortar matrix first, then add MF-12 gradually under effective agitation. Avoid dumping full bags into one point, and stop to correct fiber balls rather than extending mixing indefinitely.

What are the commercial terms?

Milorez offers a free sample. Commercial MOQ is one 20-foot FCL, approximately 12–15 tonnes depending on packing, available FOB Xiamen or Qingdao.
