Compared with MR-5910, MR-5920 offers a higher softening point and a stronger aromatic contribution. This generally improves compatibility with more aromatic polymer domains and can increase cohesion, but the effect depends on polymer architecture, oil, wax, and resin loading.

Formulation and application notes

MR-5920 can be screened with EVA, SIS, SBS, SBR, natural rubber, synthetic polyisoprene, and selected APAO systems. In hot-melt adhesives, first check blend clarity and viscosity across the actual production temperature range. Then measure open time, set speed, hot tack, peel strength, shear holding power, and heat resistance.

For PSA systems, medium aromatic modification can improve interaction with styrenic domains, but too much compatibility with the end blocks may change cohesion and failure mode. Use side-by-side testing rather than relying on a generic “C5/C9” label.

In rubber compounding and sealants, assess processing, filler wetting, green tack, extrusion behavior, creep, and final mechanical properties. The stated acid value and color are useful purchasing controls, while molecular-weight distribution and aromatic level may explain performance differences between nominally similar grades.

When replacing a current resin, keep the polymer, oil, antioxidant, and mixing sequence fixed for the first trial. If adjustment is needed, change one variable at a time and record the result. This is especially important when moving between MR-5910 and MR-5920.
